RIPON, Wis. – Four UW-Stevens Point men's basketball players scored in double figures as the Pointers rolled to a 72-49 win at Ripon (5-4) on Saturday. UWSP (7-1) made 11 three-pointers in the win.
Brandon Spray (Prairie Du Sac, Wis./Sauk Prairie) led the way with 14 points.
Blake Ehrke (Deerfield, Wis./Deerfield) added 13 with a team-high seven boards.
Zach Mootz (Merrill, Wis./Merrill) poured in 12 points on 5-for-5 shooting from the field.
Garrett Nelson (Beaver Dam, Wis./Beaver Dam) rounded out the quartet with 11 points.
Matt Koerner (West Bend, Wis./West) hit back-to-back threes to open the game as UWSP took the lead early. Spray completed an and-one and the Pointers led by five just four minutes in. Ehrke buried a three to break an 11-11 tie and snap a 5-0 run by the Red Hawks. Just after the midpoint of the first half, Ehrke completed the three-point play as the lead stood at 19-15.
Consecutive layups by Nelson sparked a 10-2 run by the Pointers as the advantage grew to 29-19 with 3:48 left in the first half.
Zach Mootz (Merrill, Wis./Merrill) drilled a three late as UWSP finished the half with six-straight points and a 36-21 halftime lead.
Aaron Knez (Chippewa Falls, Wis./Chippewa Falls) broke the seal on the second half with a jumper more than three minutes in. Ehrke and Nelson each hit from behind the arc as UWSP increased the lead to 18 with 13:37 to go. Spray poured in a pair of three-pointers down the stretch as UWSP build a 25-point lead.
Jeven Sachtjen (Manawa, Wis./Little Wolf) scored his first collegiate points late with a three-pointer.
The Pointers return home to face Augustana on Dec. 22 with tip-off set for 3:00 p.m.
