STEVENS POINT, Wis. – The No. 3-seed UW-Stevens Point volleyball team (24-8) swept No. 6-seed UW-La Crosse (16-14) in the first round of the WIAC Championship (presented by Culver's).
Junior
Ellie Adams (Racine, Wis./William Horlick) recorded eighth-straight double-double and 20th of the season with a game-high 325 assists and 12 digs.
Seniors
April Gehl (Hilbert, Wis./Hilbert) and
Tara Emme (St. Nazianz, Wis./Valders) were each in double figures with 14 and 13 kills, respectively.
Megan Lau (Potter, Wis./Hilbert) added 11.
Emma Peterson (Bloomington, Minn./Thomas Jefferson) led UWSP with 15 digs and
Mazie Nagel (Stratford, Wis./Stratford) contributed 10.
Lau had four kills in a 10-1 run in the first set as the Pointers cruised to a 25-12 victory. Gehl and Emme combined for five kills as UWSP took a 13-6 lead in the second set and held off the Eagles to take the set, 25-19.
Emme and Gehl teamed up again to begin the third set with six kills for a 12-3 advantage. Gehl had three more late kills and Emme ended the match with three-straight kills in 25-14 win in the third set for the sweep.
The Pointers advance to the semifinals and a match-up at UW-Eau Claire on Thursday (Nov. 7) at 7:00 p.m.
