Hardyman Nets Late Game-Winner as Pointers Secure Bye

LA CROSSE, Wis. – Senior Maddy Hardyman (Red Wing, Minn./Red Wing) scored late as the UW-Stevens Point women's soccer team (11-4-2, 5-2-0) earned a 1-0 win at UW-La Crosse (11-6-2, 4-2-1) in the regular season finale.

The win gives the Pointers the two-seed in next week's WIAC Championship (presented by Culver's) and a bye into the semifinal round.  UWSP will host the highest remaining seed from Tuesday's first round action in the semifinals on Thursday at Point Soccer bowl at 2:00 p.m.

Neither team scored in the first half with UWL tallying five shots to UWSP's four.  In the second half, the Pointers started with two shots on goal and a corner kick in the first 18 minutes.

In the 86th minute, Hardyman found the back of the net, her third goal of the season.  Meaghan Ambelang (Stuttgart, Germany/Patch/Stuttgart) picked up an assist on the play.  UWSP's defense held off the Eagles without a shot the remainder of the match for the shutout win.

Lexi Pawlowski (Mundelein, Ill./Mundelein) made two saves to earn the clean sheet for the Pointers.  UWL goalkeeper Quinn Shannon made four saves.

The Pointers await the highest advancing team from Tuesday's first round matches for a 2:00 pm. match-up in the semifinals on Thursday (Nov. 7).
