ST. LOUIS, Mo. – The UW-Stevens Point women's soccer team's run in the NCAA Tournament came crashing down in double overtime as Adrian eliminated the Pointers, 1-0, in the first round match.
UWSP earned a corner kick in the fifth minute, the first of five corners for the Pointers in the first half. In the 22nd minute, freshman
Kati Frierdich (Neenah, Wis./Winneconne) hit the crossbar as UWSP narrowly missed taking the lead.
The Pointers earned four more corner kicks in the second half, but were unable to capitalize.
In the first overtime, Adrian earned the only corner and neither team had a shot on net.
Then in the 102nd minute, the Bulldogs tallied the game-winner with a chip over UWSP goalkeeper
Lexi Pawlowski (Mundelein, Ill./Mundelein) to advance.
Pawlowski made four saves in the match. Adrian goalkeeper Ayverie Giller made three saves to earn the shutout.
Saturday's match was UWSP's 16th appearance in the NCAA Tournament.
