LAST TIME OUT
UWSP opened the second half of the season by defeating Concordia (Minn.), 3-2, and St. Olaf, 8-2.
Jordan Fader (Rice Lake, Wis.) scored his first collegiate goal and
Stephan Beauvais (Shelby Township, Mich.) tallied the game-winner as the Pointers took down Concordia (Minn.), 3-2. The following night, UWSP tallied four goals in the first period and four goals in the third period to beat St. Olaf, 8-2.

SPREADING THE PUCK
The Pointers scored 11 goals in the two games over the weekend with seven different players lighting the lamp. Fader scored his first collegiate goal and Beauvais tallied his first of the season. Against St. Olaf, seven players had multi-point nights. The Pointers offense is eighth in the nation, averaging 4.0 goals per game.
BETWEEN THE PIPES
Sophomore
Connor Ryckman (Minesing, Ont.) and freshman
Eli Billing (Windsor, Ont.) each earned a win over the weekend, improving to 14-0-1 and 1-0-1 on the season. Ryckman made 13 saves in the 3-2 win over Concordia (Minn.), while Billing made 13 saves in the 8-2 victory at St. Olaf. Ryckman ranks fourth in the nation for goals-against average (1.46) and 19th for save percentage (.931).
MIAC SUCCESS
This weekend, the Pointers host Augsburg and Saint John's (Minn.) to face off against a pair of MIAC opponents. UWSP has had success against the MIAC holding an all-time record of 118-45-12. This season, the Pointers are 6-0 against teams from the State of Hockey, outscoring opponents, 30-11.

Augsburg enters the weekend with a 12-1-2 record and sit atop the MIAC. The Auggies began the second half of the season by sweeping Hamline, 6-3 and 7-2. The Auggies are led by Alex Rodriguez (13-10-23), who ranks seventh in the nation in points. Luke Dietsch (9-10-19), Chandler Madry (6-12-18) and Tommy Carey (5-13-18) are in the top 30 in points. Nick Schmit has seen a majority of the time in goal, playing in 11 of 15 games, compiling a record of 8-0-2.
Augsburg heads to UW-Stout on Saturday (Jan. 12) to play the Blue Devils following their game with UWSP.

Saint John's (Minn.) heads into the Stevens Point matchup holding a 7-5-3 record and are third in the MIAC. The Johnnies went 2-0-0 last weekend, taking down Bethel, 5-1 and 3-0. In the net for Saint John's is Andrew Lindgren, who has started 10 of 15 games. The Johnnies are led by Brady Heppner (9-6-15), Kyle Wagner (3-11-14) and Matt Colford (4-7-11).
Saint John's (Minn.) travels to play UW-Eau Claire on Friday (Jan. 11) before facing the Pointers.

UWSP leads the all-time series with Augsburg at 11-5-1. Last season, UWSP lost to Augsburg, 2-1, on the road. The Pointers are 4-1 in the last five meetings dating back to 2012-13 and have outscored the Auggies 15-6 in those games.
UWSP is 11-7-1 all-time against Saint John's. Last season, the Pointers knocked off Saint John's, 5-1, in Anoka, Minn. In the last five meetings, UWSP is 4-0-1 since the 2009-10 season, outscoring the Johnnies, 20-10.

THE COACHES
Head coach
Tyler Krueger is in his second season as the head coach of the Pointers. Under his leadership, the Pointers finished the 2017-18 season with a 21-6-3 record and returned to the Frozen Four after missing out the year before. He was also a pivotal part of the Pointers' three-year run to the National Championship game in 2014, 2015 and 2016. From behind the bench, Krueger helped UWSP win its first WIAC Tournament title and fifth National Championship in 2016. Prior to joining the coaching staff, Krueger was a four-year member of the Pointers hockey team. He skated in 79 games as a Pointer with two goals, 15 assists and a plus/minus of +34 for his career. He captained the 2014 team that reached the NCAA title game.
Chris Brown is in his 13th season at Augsburg in 2018-19. During his first six seasons at Augsburg, Brown has helped guide the Auggies toward the top of the MIAC standings, as the team has appeared four times in the MIAC playoffs, including a semifinal round appearance during the 2009-10 season. In his collegiate coaching career, Brown has earned conference coach of the year honors three times, including in the MIAC in 2006-07. He has also been a finalist for the American Hockey Coaches Association's Division III National Coach of the Year award three times. Prior to being the named the head coach, Brown served as an assistant at Augsburg from 2005-2006.
Doug Schueller is in his 11th season as the head coach at Saint John's. Last season, Schueller led the Johnnies to a 16-8-2 record and a second-place finish in MIAC standings. In his time at Saint John's, the Johnnies earned their first MIAC regular-season title since 2005 (eighth overall) and later earned their sixth appearance at the NCAA Division III Tournament with the first MIAC Playoff Championship since 2003 (fifth overall) in 2012-13. Prior to becoming the head coach at SJU, Schueller served as an assistant coach at NCAA Division I Bowling Green State University and was responsible for the Falcons' defensemen and recruiting efforts. He was a 2001 graduate of Bowling Green and a three-time captain for the Falcons.
UP NEXT
UWSP returns to WIAC play next weekend, hosting UW-Eau Claire on Friday (Jan. 18) before traveling to take on UW-River Falls on Saturday (Jan. 19).
