STEVENS POINT, Wis. – The UW-Stevens Point women's hockey team (6-6-2) scored twice in the first period and held off visiting College of Saint Benedict (4-5-1) for a 2-1 win on day two of the Crossover Tournament.
Senior
Lauren Smith (Antigo, Wis./Antigo) got the scoring underway at the 12:27 mark of the first. Fellow senior
Mackenzie Kratch (Waconia, Minn./Waconia) picked up the first of her two assists on the day.
Later in the first, freshman
Haley Sellers (Kenosha, Wis./Milwaukee Jr. Admirals) registered her first career goal. Kratch picked up her second assist to record her second multi-point game of the year.
In the third period, CSB's Mollie Wise scored her second goal of the weekend to cut the Pointers' lead in half.
UWSP senior goaltender stopped 16 shots int eh third period and recorded 29 saves in the win. CSB goaltender Kailee Medved made 18 saves.
UWSP heads to Minnesota on Tuesday for a non-conference matchup against St. Catherine. Game time in St. Paul is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
