Pointers Cruise To 8-2 Victory Over Oles

NORTHFIELD, Minn. – The No. 1-ranked UW-Stevens Point men's hockey team (15-0-2) scored four goals in each the first and third periods to cruise to an 8-2 victory over St. Olaf (3-8-1).  

Six Pointers had a multi-point game with another seven recording a point. Tanner Karty (Oklahoma City, Okla.) led the way with three points. Ryan Bitter, Austin Kelly (Toledo, Ohio), Zach Zech (South Lyon, Mich.), Colin Raver (Bartlett, Ill.) and Carter Roo (Champlin, Minn.) each had two-point nights.

For the second night in a row, Jordan Fader (Rice Lake, Wis.) got the Pointers on the board first, tallying his second career goal 1:30 into the game. Roo picked up the assist on the play.

Roo added a team-leading fourth power-play goal at the 10:24 mark of the first with assists from Zech and TJ Roo (Champlin, Minn.).

Karty scored the second power-play goal of the night at 12:33 in the first. Danny Kiraly (Glendale, Ariz.) and Luke McElhenie (Sauk City, Wis.) had the assists.

With 1:01 remaining in the first, Austin Kelly (Toledo, Ohio) picked up his first of the night with Steven Quagliata (Bartlett, Ill.) and Brennen Miller (Keller, Texas) getting the assists.

Following a scoreless second period, Kelly scored nine seconds into the third period. Ryan Bitter tallied the assist.

St. Olaf recorded back-to-back goals at 7:45 and 13:00 in the third period.

Drew McLean (Waterford, Mich.) scored the Pointers' third power-play goal with just under six minutes to play in the third. Zech had the assist.

Colin Raver (Bartlett, Ill.) capped the scoring with two goals in 20 seconds at 18:12 and 18:32 of the third. Karty had assists on both goals with Bitter adding an assist on the second goal.

Freshman goaltender Eli Billing (Windsor, Ont.) earned his first win of the season to improve to 1-0-1. He made 13 saves. Oles' keeper Noah Parker made 34 saves in the game.

The Pointers return home next weekend (Jan. 11-12) to face Augsburg and Saint John's (Minn.). Puck drop is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. both nights.
