STEVENS POINT, Wis. – The No. 20 UW-Stevens Point men's basketball team (13-5, 5-3) held visiting UW-Eau Claire (10-9, 3-5) to just 17 first-half points in a 62-44 win to complete the season sweep of the Blugolds.
Ethan Bublitz (Jackson, Wis./Kettle Moraine Lutheran) scored a game-high 16 points for UWSP and dished out a team-best four assists. He also had two blocks in the win.
Nate Dodge (East Troy, Wis./East Troy) also scored in double digits with 11 points.
Canon O'Heron (Bangor, Wis./Bangor) led the Pointers with nine rebounds.
O'Heron scored the first bucket of the game and the teams traded baskets until an and-one by
Brett Tauber (Madison, Wis./Memorial) sparked an 8-2 spurt by the Pointers.
Midway through the half, Dodge hit on back-to-back offensive trips to start an 8-0 run as UWSP went up 20-8.
Aaron Knez (Chippewa Falls, Wis./Chippewa Falls) nailed a three later in the half and UWSP lead 27-17 at the break.
Dodge nailed a triple two minutes into the second half as the lead remained 10. Bublitz buried a three to put UWSP ahead 39-28 with 15:01 to go.
Garrett Nelson (Beaver Dam, Wis./Beaver Dam) drilled a three and hit two free throws as the lead ballooned to 17 at 45-28.
Matt Koerner (West Bend, Wis./West) hit a pair of threes as the Pointers led 51-31 with 8:18 remaining. Bublitz scored UWSP's next eight points and freshman
Peter Timmerman (Dubuque, Iowa/Wahlert Catholic) completed the scoring with his first-career points, a three-pointer in the final minute of play.
UWSP travels to UW-La Crosse looking to even the season series with the Eagles. Tip-off in La Crosse is set for 7:00 p.m.
