DE PERE, Wis. – The UW-Stevens Point volleyball team (6-5) rebounded with a dominant three-set win over Lawrence (1-10) to split a pair of matches at the WIAC.MWC Quad in De Pere on Wednesday. UWSP fell to host St. Norbert (4-6) in straight sets to begin the night.
Junior
April Gehl (Hilbert, Wis./Hilbert) continued to pile up kills with 15 and 13, respectively, on the day. Sophomore
Ellie Adams (Racine, Wis./William Horlick) had 25 assists against SNC and added 21 more in the win over Lawrence.
Freshman
Emma Peterson (Bloomington, Minn./Thomas Jefferson) racked up 13 digs versus the Green Knights and had 18 more in the victory over the Vikings.
UWSP held Lawrence to a -.110 hitting percentage in the sweep while hitting .378 as a team.
UWSP 0, SNC 3 (19-25, 22-25, 19-25)
UWSP out-hit the Green Knights in the first set, but suffered a 25-19 defeat. The Pointers improved their hitting percentage in the second set to .214, but were edged out again by SNC. In the third set, UWSP's hitting percentage was at a respectable .205, but the Green Knights finished off the sweep.
UWSP 3, Lawrence 0 (25-10, 25-8, 25-13)
The Pointers had 13 kills in the first set with just two errors for a .500 hitting percentage. In the second set, UWSP had 14 more kills and hit .414. The straight-set win was completed with 11 kills. UWSP had just seven hitting errors in the match.
UWSP heads to UW-River Falls this weekend for four matches against foes from Minnesota. The Pointers begin the weekend tournament on Friday (Sept. 14) at 3:00 p.m. against St. Thomas.
