STEVENS POINT, Wis. – The UW-Stevens Point women's soccer team (12-2-3, 5-0-2) finished the regular season with a 0-0 draw against visiting UW-La Crosse (15-2-1, 7-0-0) on Saturday. The Pointers finish WIAC play unbeaten and will go into next week conference tournament as the two-seed.
Sophomore goalkeeper
Lexi Pawlowski (Mundelein, Ill./Mundelein) made nine saves for her seventh clean sheet of the season. The Pointers' shutout of UWL was just the second of the year for the Eagles.
Pawlowski made four first-half saves. UWSP senior
Kortnee Hass (Johnsburg, Ill./Johnsburg) fired the lone shot on net in the first half for the Pointers.
In the second half,
Bri Widmer (Weston, Wis./D.C. Everest) tested the UWL keeper to no avail. Pawlowski added three more saves to send the match to overtime.
Neither team was able to create a credible offensive threat in the first overtime period. The Eagles tested Pawloski twice in the second OT stanza, but the UWSP keeper was up for the task making both saves to preserve the shutout.
The Pointers will be the two-seed in next week's WIAC Championship (presented by Culver's) and await the winners of the first round matchups. UWSP will host the highest seed remaining among first round winners at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday (Nov. 1).
