STEVENS POINT, Wis. – Sophomore goaltender
Marit Larson (Oakdale, MN/North St. Paul) stopped all 23 shots as the UW-Stevens Point women's hockey team (11-6-2) picked up its fifth shutout in the last seven games with a 1-0 victory over St. Catherine University (4-12-1) at Ice Hawks Arena on Tuesday.
The shutout was the second of the season for Larson and her 23 saves were a season high for the netminder from Oakdale, Minn.
After a scoreless opening period,
Maddie Schlossmacher (Roseville, MN/Roseville) broke the tie with her sixth goal of the season. Freshman
Shannon Motzko (Woodbury, MN/Woodbury) and junior
Lauren Smith (Antigo, WI/Antigo) picked up assists on the play.
The Pointers were unable to take advantage of the lone penalty of the game assessed to the Wildcats in the first period.
UWSP hits the road for the first game of the series against UW-Eau Claire for a 7:00 p.m. game this Saturday (Jan. 27) at Hobbs Ice Arena.
