Volleyball Hits on All Cylinders in Pair of Sweeps

OSHKOSH, Wis. – The No. 25 UW-Stevens Point volleyball team (9-2) hit .200 or better in all six sets in sweeps of Lawrence (3-7) and St. Norbert (3-8) at the Oshkosh Quad on Wednesday night.
 
Senior Morgan Wirkus (Marathon, Wis./Marathon) had double-digit kills in both wins including 15 against Lawrence and 10 more versus St. Norbert.  She racked up a double-double with 10 digs against the Green Knights.
 
Setters Delaney McCreary (West Bend, Wis./East) and Ellie Adams (Racine, Wis./William Horlick) both had double figure assist totals in both matches.  McCreary had 20 and 19, while Adams added 14 and 17.
 
Sophomore Lisa Bedessem (Burlington, Wis./Sauk Prairie) had a season-high 14 digs versus St. Norbert.  She had 12 digs against the Vikings.
 
UWSP 3, Lawrence 0 (25-16, 25-16, 25-15)
 
The Pointers hit .270 in the opening set and held the Vikings to a .047 hitting percentage in the nine-point victory.  In the second set, UWSP hit .310 in another nine-point win.
 
UWSP's defense continued to hold Lawrence under .100 for the third-straight set and hit .209, its lowest hitting percentage of the night, to complete the sweep by a 10-point margin.
 
UWSP 3, SNC 0 (25-15, 25-13, 25-14)
 
UWSP continued to overpower its opponents when the Pointers held the Green Knights to a -.069 hitting percentage in the opening set.  The Pointers forced seven attack errors and hit. 233 for the 10-point win.
 
In the second and third sets, UWSP hit over .300 while cruising to the straight-set victory.
 
The Pointers head to River Falls for the UW-River Falls Invitational.  UWSP will face St. Benedict and St. Thomas on Friday before wrapping the weekend against St. Olaf and Finlandia on Saturday.
