Fredrickson’s Career-High Leads Pointers to Win at Edgewood

MADISON, Wis. – Junior Drew Fredrickson (Mount Horeb, Wis./Mount Horeb) poured in a career-high 19 points as the UW-Stevens Point men's basketball team (6-2) won its fifth-straight, 71-64, at Edgewood (3-7) on Thursday night.

Fredrickson made four of his five three-pointers and went 7-for-10 from the free throw line in the victory. He added a pair of assists and recorded his fourth career block.

Senior MJ Delmore (Wisconsin Dells, Wis./Wisconsin Dells) contributed 14 points in just 18 minutes. He hit 2-of-3 three-pointers and nailed both free throws in the game. Sophomore Brandon Spray (Prairie Du Sac, Wis./Sauk Prairie) tied a career-high with seven points and grabbed a career-best five rebounds.

After a Delmore basket in the first minute, Edgewood hit a three to take its only lead of the game. Brett Tauber (Madison, Wis./Memorial) gained the lead back for UWSP and back-to-back triples put the Pointers ahead 10-6.

Fredrickson hit from behind the arc on consecutive possessions midway through the first half to maintain the lead. Later in the half, Nate Dodge (East Troy, Wis./East Troy) drilled a three to push to lead to eight at 30-22, but an 11-4 run by the Eagles to close the half cut the lead to one at the break.

Canon O'Heron (Bangor, Wis./Bangor) scored in the midst of a 5-0 run as UWSP created a bit of separation at 46-40 a little over seven minutes into the second half. Fredrickson hit another three and Spray scored five-straight to extend the lead to nine.

Delmore scored five points over two-consecutive possessions around the six minute mark to push the lead back to nine. Tauber completed the scoring from the field at the 1:39 at 66-59 as both teams finished the game with free throws down the stretch.

The Pointers turn around and play No. 3 Augustana tomorrow night (Dec. 22). Tip-off at JustAGame Fieldhouse in Wisconsin Dells is set for 7:00 p.m.
