STEVENS POINT, Wis. – Senior defender
Ellie Punnett (Hailey, ID/Athol Murray College of Notre Dame) tallied a power play goal with 1:08 remaining in regulation to give the UW-Stevens Point women's hockey team (2-4-1, 1-1-0) a 2-1 win over visiting UW-Superior (4-3-0, 1-1-0) on Saturday afternoon.
The teams skated to a scoreless first period with each squad registering five shots on goal.
In the second period, senior
Maddie Schlossmacher (Roseville, MN/Roseville) broke the scoreless tie. Her first goal of the year was assisted by
Cara Lemirande (Janesville, WI/Madison Capitols) and
Emma Berthiaume (South Haven, MN/Hutchinson).
Late in the second period, UW-Superior scored to even the game at 1-1. The score remained knotted until late in the third.
With 1:46 remaining, the Yellowjackets were called for hooking, giving the Pointers just their second power play of the game. UWSP capitalized on the opportunity less than 30 second later with Punnett netting the game-winner.
Ali Biagini (Stillwater, MN/Stillwater) and Lemarande picked up assists.
Junior goaltender
Sydney Conley (South St. Paul, MN/South St. Paul) made 22 saves for the victory. UWS goalie Sky Brown stopped 16 shots.
The Pointers remain at home with a 7:00 p.m. non-conference game against Marian on Tuesday (Nov. 21).
