RIVER FALLS, Wis. – The UW-Stevens Point volleyball team (24-8, 4-2) got a straight-set victory at UW-River Falls (18-13, 0-6) in conference action on Wednesday evening.
Senior
Kelly Magliano (Chicago, Ill./Mount Assisi Academy) led UWSP with 13 kills. Sophomore
April Gehl (Hilbert, Wis./Hilbert) and
Rachel Hein (Muskego, Wis./Muskego) also contributed double-digit kills with 11 and 10, respectively. Hein's 10 kills were a career-high.
Fellow senior
Kendra Kundinger (Auburndale, Wis./Auburndale) had a game-high 14 digs to extend her streak to 21-straight matches with double figures in the category.
Sophomore
Abby Majercik (Johnsburg, Ill./Johnsburg) had all 36 assists for UWSP. She added a pair of service aces in the win.
The Pointers took the first set, 25-20, despite being out-hit by the Falcons. UWRF hit .314 to UWSP's .263.
UWSP controlled the remainder of the match with hitting percentages of .235 and .375 in the second and third sets, respectively. The Pointers held the Falcons to just three kills in the second set and six in the third to cruise to victory.
The Pointers travel to UW-La Crosse on Saturday to face the top team in the conference in the regular season finale. With tonight's victory, the Pointers are assured of hosting a match in the opening round of the WIAC Tournament on Tuesday (Oct. 31).
