PLATTEVILLE, Wis. – The UW-Stevens Point women's soccer team (8-5-1, 2-1-1) scored early and held off host UW-Platteville (6-8-0, 0-4-0) for a 2-0 road win on Saturday night.
Sophomore
Maddy Hardyman (Red Wing, Minn./Red Wing) tallied her second goal of the week in the ninth minute of the match. Her seventh goal of the season came off an assist from
Nora Hargett (Columbia, Mo./Hickman), who upped her team lead int eh category to seven helpers on the year.
In the 35th minute, the Pointers were awarded a penalty kick. Sophomore
Kortnee Hass (Johnsburg, Ill./Johnsburg) stepped up to the dot and drilled the PK into the back of the net to grow the UWSP lead to 2-0.
The home-standing Pioneers got their lone shot of the first half in the 38th minute, but it was blocked by the Pointers' defense. UWSP senior goalkeeper
Sarah Peplinski (Stevens Point, Wis./SPASH) made the only save she needed to in the 86th minute to earn her fourth shutout of the year.
Hardyman and Hass combined for five of the Pointers' eight shots in the match. UWSP out-shot UWP, 8-5.
The Pointers return home to face UW-Oshkosh at Point Soccer Bowl on Wednesday (Oct. 22) at 4:00 p.m.
