NORTHFIELD, Minn. — Senior forward Jacob Barber (Dardenne Prairie, MO) tallied a pair of goals in the third period to lead the third-ranked UW-Stevens Point men's hockey team to a 5-1 victory over St. Olaf Friday evening at the Northfield Ice Arena.
With 2:44 remaining in the third period, Karty tallied his fourth goal of the season and second point of the evening to put UWSP (10-2-2) up 5-1 over St. Olaf (3-10-1).
In the first period St. Olaf's (3-10-1) Sawyer Jacobson opened the scoring 1:47 into the game to give the Oles an early 1-0 lead over UWSP (10-2-2).
At the 7:35 mark of the opening frame, Willem Nong-Lambert tallied his fifth goal of the season off assists by Logan Fredericks and Ethan Strong (Kinmount, ON) to kick start the Pointers' five goal run.
Just 1:44 into the middle frame, Jono Davis (La Verne, CA) found the back of the net off assists by Kyle Sharkey (Moore, OK/Insight School of Kansas) and Austin Kelly (Toledo, OH) to put the Pointers up 2-1 heading into the final period.
Off the opening face-off of the third period, Lawrence Cornellier (Machesney Park, IL/Harlem) set up senior forward Jacob Barber (Dardenne Prairie, MO) for his first goal of evening, eight-seconds into the final period putting the Pointers up 3-1.
Midway through the third, Cornellier set up Barber again, scoring a power-play goal to put UWSP up 4-1, netting his 10th goal of the season.
With just under three minutes remaining, Tanner Karty (Oklahoma City, OK) scored an insurance goal sealing the UWSP victory.
UWSP outshot St. Olaf 30-11. Junior goaltender Max Milosek made 10 saves for UWSP, while Eric Hancock made 25 for St. Olaf.
The Pointers will return to action tomorrow evening taking on Hamline at Oscar Johnson Arena in St. Paul, Minn. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
