STEVENS POINT, Wis. – The University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point closed out the regular season with a sweep of non-conference opponent Wisconsin Lutheran on Wednesday afternoon at McCarty Memorial Field. The Pointers won game one 8-0 in six innings and took game two 3-1.

UW-Stevens Point 8, Wisconsin Lutheran 0  (6 inn.)

Maddie Durie (Appleton, WI/East) pitched a complete game shutout and Bailie Sheahan (Salem, WI/Wilmot Union) scored three runs to lead the Pointers (14-22) to an 8-0 victory in game one of the doubleheader.

Sheahan led off the first inning with a single, and scored the first of two unearned runs the Pointers scored in the inning. Sheahan then doubled to lead off the third inning, and came around to score on an RBI single by Katie Uhlenbrauck (Hortonville, WI/Hortonville). Paige Kitzing (Mount Pleasant, WI/J.J. Case) then singled in a run, and Paige Allen (South Elgin, IL/South Elgin) gave the Pointers four runs in the inning with a two-run double down the left field line.

Kitzing made it 7-0 with a solo home run to left field in the fifth inning, and Cooper finished off the game with an RBI single to left to score Sheahan in the sixth.

Durie allowed only two hits in the game while striking out five. Sheahan, Cooper, Kitzing, Allen and Dana Gertschen (Marathon, WI/Marathon) each had two hits for the Pointers.

Cassie Arns took the loss for the Warriors (21-19), allowing six runs on seven hits in three innings. Kaitlyn Robison and Abby Mahsem had hits for the Warriors.

UW-Stevens Point 3, Wisconsin Lutheran 1

Kirsten Perkinson (Dunlap, IL/Dunlap) had two hits with an RBI and a run scored to give the Pointers a 3-1 in in game two.

The Pointers got on the board first with two runs in the third inning. Perkinson doubled to left field, and later scored on an RBI double by Jen Jacobson (Bolingbrook, IL/Bolingbrook). Cori Semler (Hartford, WI/Hartford Union) then reached on an infield single, moving Jacobson to third. Jacobson would then score on an error to give the Pointers a 2-0 lead.

The Warriors got a run back in the fourth inning, when Libby Schellpfeffer led off the inning with a single. After advancing to second on a sacrifice bunt and to third on a groundout, Schellpfeffer scored on a throwing error to make it 2-1.

The Pointers answered right back in the bottom half of the inning when Sheahan reached on an error by the centerfielder and advanced all the way to third. Perkinson then proceeded to drive her in on a squeeze bunt.

That was all the scoring the Pointers would need, as Averi Kanyuh (Rapid River, WI/Rapid River) pitched three innings of relief to pick up the save. Amelia Heup (Milwaukee, WI/Lutheran) started the game and allowed one run over four innings to earn the win.

Jodi Vanderford (Kenosha, WI/Mary D. Bradford), Cassidy Winter (Westfield, WI/Westfield), and Sydney Opdahl (Greenfield, WI/Whitnall) also had hits for the Pointers.
