PLATTEVILLE, Wis.- The UW Stevens Point softball traveled to warmer weather on Sunday to take on the Pioneers of UW-Platteville. The Pointers came out successful on the last minute road trip to earn a Sunday sweep of the Pioneers.

In game one, the Pioneers had the first at-bat of the day and took a 1-0 lead into the dugout. The Pointers responded quickly thanks to a leadoff triple by
Bailie Sheahan (Salem, WI/Wilmot Union) followed by singles from
Alyssa Cooper (Little Suamico, WI/Bay Port) and
Jen Jacobson (Bolingbrook, IL/Bolingbrook) to help the Pointers take a 2-1 lead after one.
In the top of the fourth, the Pioneers scored three runs on two hits. In the bottom half,
Kirsten Perkinson (Dunlap, IL/Dunlap) reached on a two out single, before Sheahan two a two-run homer for the Pointers, cutting the lead to 6-4
The Pioneers scored one more before the Pointers took to the plate in the bottom of the sixth.
Cori Semler (Hartford, WI/Hartford Union) got the bats going for the Pointers with a one out double. Perkinson followed suit with a double of her own before Sheahan drew a walk. A couple of wild pitches advanced Pointer base runners before
Payton Mix (New London, WI/New London) hit a 2RBI single to right field. Cooper then singled through the right side scoring Mix to put the Pointers up 8-6. The Pointers held the Pioneers to one hit in the 7
th and took game one 8-7.
The Pointers pounded out 10 hits with four different players getting at least two hits.
Maddie Durie (Appleton, WI/East) picked the win coming in relief, pitching 3.2 innings surrendering three runs on five hits.

Game two started with the same sort of feel for the Pointers finding themselves down 2-0 heading into the bottom of the third. Sheahan continued her Sunday success at the plate with a leadoff triple to right center. Perkinson drove in Sheahan and
Alyssa Cooper (Little Suamico, WI/Bay Port) followed up with a RBI double down the left field line.
Paige Kitzing (Mount Pleasant, WI/J.J. Case) then stepped to the plate knocking one over the fence and scoring two. The freshman's first collegiate home run highlighted a successful four run inning for the Pointers.
In the fifth inning, UW-Platteville Carley Wagner scored on a wild pitch, cutting into the Pointers lead. In the bottom half,
Averi Kanyuh (Rapid River, WI/Rapid River) and
Jen Jacobson (Bolingbrook, IL/Bolingbrook) drove in a pair of runs to put the Pointers up 6-3 entering the sixth.
In the bottom of the seventh, UW-Platteville Brooke Posey hit an RBI single, scoring the Pioneers final run of the game.
UWSP once again recorded double digit hits with
Alyssa Cooper (Little Suamico, WI/Bay Port) (three-for-four) leading the way. Of the 12 hits in game two,seven different Pointers recorded a hit.
The Pointers are back in action at home this Tuesday, April 26 for a non-conference doubleheader match up with St. Norbert. First pitch is set for 3:00pm.
