STEVENS POINT, Wis. - Freshman forward
Cara Lemirande (Janesville, WI/Craig) scored a pair of power play goals in the first period to lead the UW-Stevens Point women's hockey team to a 3-1 victory over Concordia (Wis) on Saturday afternoon at Ice Hawks Arena.
Box ScoreLemirande opened the scoring for the UWSP (15-7-3) at the 7:39 mark of the first period, giving the Pointers an early 1-0 lead off an assist by
Shauna Bollinger (Menomonie, WI/Menomonie).
With just one minute remaining in the first period,
Lauren Smith (Antigo, WI/Antigo) set up Lemirande for her second of the game to give the Pointers a 2-0 lead over Concordia (8-15-2) entering the second period.
Despite putting up 13 shots, the Pointers came up empty in the second frame holding a 2-0 lead entering the final period.
At 6:03 into the third period, CUW's Katherine Pauletti cut the UWSP lead in half, off an assist by Baylee Darling.
Just 2:37 later, sophomore
Lexi Englund (White Bear Lake, MN/White Bear Lake) gave UWSP an insurance goal as the Pointers took a 3-1 lead, securing the team's final victory of the regular season. Englund goal was her first of the season, and the seventh of her career.
UWSP outshot Concordia 45-10.
Allie Gloudemans (Little Chute, WI/Little Chute) earned her second win of the season making two saves, while
Lisa Fowle (Wausau, WI/Wausau West) and
Sydney Conley (South St. Paul, MN/South St. Paul) combined for seven stops. Christina Pattengale made 42 saves for CUW.
UWSP was 2-for-5 on the power play, while CUW went 0-for-3.
The UWSP victory was part of Senior Day, where the women's hockey program honored seniors

Kat Nejedlo (Fond du Lac, WI/Fond du Lac),
Betsy Anderson (Farmington, MN/Farmington),
Rachel Reynard (Hortonville, WI/Hortonville),
Hailey Rock (Hammond, WI/Central), Gloudemans, and Bollinger.
The Pointers will return to action on Friday Feb. 26 and Feb. 27 where they will play host to UW-Superior for the semifinal round of the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Championship.Puck drop is scheduled for 7 p.m. for both contests at Ice Hawks Arena.
