Red-Hot Three-Point Shooting Launches Pointers Past Edgewood

STEVENS POINT, Wis. – The UW-Stevens Point men's basketball team (5-3) made 15 three-pointers in a 95-43 rout of visiting Edgewood College (2-6) on Thursday night at Bennett Court.  The 15 three-pointers were two shy of the single game record and the 95-point outburst was the most scored by UWSP since putting up 99 against Lawrence in the season opener of the 2013-14 season.

Junior MJ Delmore (Wisconsin Dells, Wis./Wisconsin Dells) hit three of his four three-pointers in the first half and led UWSP with 18 points in the game.  Fellow junior Zack Goedeke (Valders, Wis./Valders) scored 14 while sophomore Ethan Bublitz (Jackson, Wis./Kettle Moraine Lutheran) extended his double-figure scoring streak to 10 games with 12 points.

Sixteen different Pointers scored in the game including freshmen Blake Ehrke (Deerfield, Wis./Deerfield), Aaron Knez (Chippewa Falls, Wis./Chippewa Falls) and Brandon Spray (Prairie Du Sac, Wis./Sauk Prairie), who each recorded their first collegiate points.

UWSP jumped out to an early 7-0 lead initiated by senior Aaron Retzlaff (Randolph, Wis./Randolph) who recorded four of the Pointers' 47 points in the paint to begin the game.  Brett Tauber (Madison, Wis./Memorial), Bublitz and Delmore each hit from beyond the arc to spark a 10-3 just before the midpoint of the first half.

After an Edgewood bucket made it a 22-14 game in favor of UWSP, the Pointers held the Eagles scoreless for more than five minutes while rattling off 14-straight points to push the lead to 22.  Bryce Williams (Maple Grove, Minn./Spring Lake Park), Drew Fredrickson (Mount Horeb, Wis./Mount Horeb), Brad Freeborn (River Falls, Wis./River Falls) and Luke Zuiker (Marshfield, Wis./Marshfield) each hit from deep as UWSP lead by 35 at the half.

Early in the second half, Delmore and Williams kept up the barrage from behind the arc as the Pointers extended the lead to 38 less than five minutes in.  Later in the half, senior Caden Untiedt (Edgar, Wis./Edgar) buried his first three-pointer of the year as the Pointers rolled to the 52-point win.

UWSP continues its four-game home stand next week.  The Pointers and North Central tip off on Thursday (Dec. 29) at 7:00 p.m. as part of the Sentry Classic.  UWSP will square off with Augustana on Dec. 31 at 3:00 p.m. to conclude the non-conference schedule.
