Swimming and Diving Splits Dual Against St. Olaf

STEVENS POINT, Wis. – The UW-Stevens Point swimming and diving team split a dual against visiting St. Olaf College on Saturday.  The men defeated the Oles by a score of 227-71 and the women collected a score of 103 to St. Olaf's 194.    

Final Results

To start the scoring for the men, Sam Jekel (Fitchburg, Wis./Madison West), Jack Englehardt (Madison, Wis./West), Brandon Richardson (Minneapolis, Minn./St. Michael Academy), and Reilly Donnellan (Neenah, Wis./Neenah) earned a win in the 200-yard medley and 200-yard freestyle relays, the group timed in at 1:33.78 and 1:24.54, respectively.  Englehardt later won the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 59.25, and Jekel also won the 100-yard freestyle at 48.14. 

Last year's WIAC swimmer of the year, Nate Somers (Oshkosh, Wis./West) earned a win in the 1000-yard freestyle and the 500-yard freestyle.  Somers swam times of 10:02.68 and 4:53.66, respectively. 

Garrett Richetto (Wausau, Wis./East) won the 200-yard freestyle.  Richetto finished with a time of 1:46.90, and improving his time by one second. 

Jacob Aegerter (Cross Plains, Wis.) won the 200-yard butterfly and 200-yard IM.  Aegerter timed in with 2:00.47 and 2:02.12. 

Sean Cloghessy (Munster, Ind.) and Owen Gluck (West Bend, Wis./East) went first and second in the one-meter diving event with scores of 263.50 and 261.25.  Gluck then earned a win in the three-meter with Cloghessy in second.  The pair scored 269.60 and 249.75, respectively.  

The women began the scoring in the 200-yard medley relay. The team of Missy Angove, Bree Parent (Mt. Horeb, Wis.), Erica Perkins (Rochester, Minn./Rochester Century High School), and Kassie Yeazel (Whitewater, Wis.) earned a second-place finish with a time of 1:58.81 to contribute four points.  Parent, individually earned a win in the 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 2:33.42, and placed third in the 200-yard IM with 2:24.21.    

Perkins placed third in the 50-yard freestyle and second-place in the 200-yard IM.  Perkins timed in with 26.47 and was .28 seconds away from first place and 2:19.72 and three seconds away from first. 

Missy Angove came in second in the 200-yard backstroke.  Angove clocked in with 2:23.84, and contributing four points to the scoring.     

Murron Roff (Antigo, Wis./Antigo) came in third in both the 500-yard freestyle and 100-yard backstroke.  Roff completed her swims with times of 5:43.37 and 1:06.61.   

Jackie Braun (Sauk Rapids, Minn.) placed second in the one- and three-meter diving events.  Braun finished with scores of 243.40 and 254.65, respectively. 

The Pointers return to action as they host the Point Invite on January 20 and 21.  The meet is set to begin at 10:00 a.m. both days at the UWSP Aquatics Center.
