STEVENS POINT, Wis. - The UW-Stevens Point men's and women's swim and dive team opened the competitive season with the men's team leading the way. The Pointers hosted UW-Eau Claire and St. Cloud State in a one day meet at the UWSP Aquatics Center in Sat., October 22.

The Pointers men's team convincingly defeated UW-Eau Claire with a team score of 185.0-114.0 and edged out St. Cloud State 153.0-147.0 for the sweep.
Last year's WIAC Swimming and Diving Swimmer of the Meet,
Nate Somers (Oshkosh, Wis./West), placed first in the 500 yard freestyle with a final time of 4:56.35, three seconds faster than teammate
Austin Teunissen (Bismarck, N.D./Bismarck) (4:59.98). Somers also finished second in the 200 yard freestyle with a final time of 1:47.09 while winner Triston Ferfuson of St. Cloud took the event with a time of 1:46.82.Â
On the women's side,
Jackie Braun (Sauk Rapids, Minn.) took the 3m diving event with a final score of 225.75, while Britin Thomesen from St. Cloud finished second with three points behind Braun.
In the girls 100 yard breastroke, a trio of Pointers finished right behind each other placing fourth, fifth and sixth place respectively. Katelyn Homeyer finihsed in 1:10.76,
Erin Jameson (Algonquin, Ill./Harry D. Jacobs High School) in 1:11.25 and
Bree Parent (Mt. Horeb, Wis.) in 1:11.56.
The Pointers travel to St. Peter, Minn. on Sat., November 5 with a match against Gustavus Adolphus. The meet is set to begin at 1 p.m.
