Football Continues Hot Streak, Defeating Blugolds 28-19.

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. – For the fourth straight game, the UW-Stevens Point football team held their opponent under 20 points, therefore leading to 28-19 victory over WIAC opponent UW-Eau Claire.
 
The Pointers (4-0, 1-0 WIAC) jumped out to an early 14-0 lead in the first quarter and added 14 more points in the fourth quarter to solidify the win. The Blugolds (1-3, 0-1 WIAC) managed a score in the latter three quarters, but unable to pull off the comeback.
 
Junior Ryan Swigart (Winnebago, IL/Winnebago) got the nod at quarterback and led the Pointers to an opening drive touchdown. Swigart threw for 227 yards (21-37) and two touchdowns. UWSP totaled 318 yards on offense while holding Eau Claire to 281 yards.
 
The Blugolds came within one point after Brian Kulaga found the end zone on a 35-yard run to make it 14-13 after a missed extra point.
 
UWSP responded with back-to-back touchdown drives extending their lead to 28-13 in the tail end of the fourth quarter. With 19 seconds left, Eau Claire added a touchdown as time expired. 
 
Senior John Kontowicz (Menomonee Falls, WI/Menomonee Falls) led the Pointers with 10 tackles, nine solo.
 
The Pointers return home on Oct. 8 as they host No. 8 UW-Platteville at Goerke Park in their annual Pink Game. Kickoff is set for 2 p.m.
