Game Recap: Men's Hockey |

Sixth-ranked men's hockey tallies 10 in win over Hamline

STEVENS POINT, Wis. – The No. 6/8 UW-Stevens Point men's hockey team started the second half of its season with a bang by routing Hamline 10-3 on Thursday evening at K.B. Willett Arena.

Box Score

UW-Stevens Point (9-3-1) scored twice in the first period on Hamline (4-7-3) before exploding for six in the second and two more in the third in its highest-scoring game since an 11-0 win over Finlandia in last season's season opener on Nov. 1, 2014. The six-goal second period was the first for the Pointers since the same game.

Joe Kalisz (Davison, MI/Davison) led the offensive outburst with a career-high five assists, which is one shy of the single-game program record of six held by Kevin Fricke against UW-Eau Claire on Feb. 20, 1999. Kalisz now has eight points in his last two games and has at least one point in five consecutive games. Alex Brooks (Grand Rapids, MI) and Nick D'Avolio (North Riverside, IL) each scored two goals and six other skaters scored for the Pointers in the win.

Lawrence Cornellier (Machesney Park, IL/Harlem) started the scoring with his team-best 10th goal of the season at 5:51 of the first period. Trace Strahle (Anchorage, AK/Robert Service), who earned a helper on Cornellier's opener, then scored his first of the season on the power play at 12:19 to make it 2-0 after one.

Brooks scored both of his goals in the six-goal second period. Kalisz had three assists in the second, setting up goals by Alex Kromm (Penticton, BC), Brooks and Nathan Harris (Fowlerville, MI). Tanner Karty (Oklahoma City, OK) scored UW-Stevens Point's final goal of the period in his first collegiate game as the Pointers led 8-1 after two.

D'Avolio netted the first two goals of the third period to bring UW-Stevens Point's lead to 10-1. The Pipers got late goals from Kerry McGlynn and Garrett Schmitz, whose goal came on a shorthanded breakaway.

In total, nine UW-Stevens Point players had multi-point nights, led by Kalisz's five points and three assists from Kyle Sharkey (Moore, OK/Insight School of Kansas). The Pointers outshot the Pipers 34-25 in the game.

Max Milosek (Lapeer, MI) was the beneficiary of the 10-goal game, earning a 22-win save. Justin Quale took the loss, giving up eight goals and making 24 saves, while John Sellie Hanson let in two goals on two shots.

UW-Stevens Point looks to keep its offense rolling when it hosts St. Olaf on Sunday, Jan. 10 at 2 p.m. at K.B. Willett Arena.
