STEVENS POINT, Wis. – The UW-Stevens Point men's swimming & diving team won the 2016 Point Invite on Friday and Saturday behind seven individual event wins.
ResultsNate Somers (Oshkosh, WI) won the 500-yard freestyle in 4:51.22, which was over five seconds faster than his prelim time.
Ethan Bott (Whitefish Bay, WI) posted first-place finishes in the 100-yard backstroke (53.92s) and 200-yard backstroke (1:57.87).
Garrett Richetto (Wausau, WI) won the 100-yard freestyle, finishing first in 48.89 seconds, and was second in the 100-yard butterfly (54.07s).
Jack Englehardt (Madison, WI) won the 100-yard breaststroke with a finals time of 59.89 seconds.
Somers and
Michael Mills (Fox Point, WI) were the top-two finishers in the 1,650-yard freestyle with times of 17:07.16 and 17:21.50.
Kyle McNair (Lake Zurich, IL) and
Andrew King (Palatine, IL) placed 1-2 in the 50-yard freestyle with times of 21.76 and 21.78 seconds, as the Pointers and five of the top-six finishers in the event.
Justin Fernandez (Chicago, IL) was the runner-up in the 200-yard breaststroke in 2:14.75. He was also the runner-up in the 400-yard individual medley (4:19.61).
Sean Cloghessy (Munster, IN) placed second in both the one-meter (389.80) and three-meter (385.75) dives.
The 200-yard freestyle relay of McNair, Richetto,
Caleb Miller (La Crosse, WI) and Somers swam to a first-place finish in 1:27.23 in the finals, followed closely by the relay of King, Englehardt,
Reilly Donnellan (Neenah, WI) and
Brandon Richardson (Minneapolis, MN), which finished in 1:27.66.
Somers, Richetto, Miller and
Grant Moser (St. Michael, MN) placed second in the 800-yard freestyle relay with a time of 7:07.85.
McNair, Englehardt, Moser and Richetto were the runners-up in the 400-yard medley relay in 3:35.40.
McNair, Englehardt, Richardson and King won the 200-yard individual medley relay, touching the wall in 1:35.82.
King, McNair, Somers and Miller were the runners-up in the 400-yard freestyle relay (3:16.99).
The Pointers finished with a total of 1,065 points, 16 ahead of St. Thomas (1,039). UW-Eau Claire was third with 747 points.
UW-Stevens Point hosts UW-La Crosse in a Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) dual on Saturday, Jan. 30 at 1 p.m.
