STEVENS POINT, Wis. – The UW-Stevens Point softball team was swept by UW-Eau Claire, falling 14-5 and 13-2 in a Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) doubleheader on Friday afternoon at University Field.
UW-Eau Claire 14, UW-Stevens Point 5 | Box UW-Eau Claire (11-11, 2-0 WIAC) scored 10 runs over the first three innings and had five players with multi-hit games. Taylor Pierce was 3-for-3 with three runs scored and Casey Arnold reached base four of five times with three RBI.
Paige Allen (South Elgin, IL/South Elgin) was 3-for-4 with a run and an RBI for UW-Stevens Point (7-14, 1-3 WIAC) and
Jordon Schreiner (Kaukauna, WI/Kaukauna) and Sam Olson each had two hits. Olson drove in two runs, while Schreiner reached safely in all four plate appearances.
Schreiner and Olson singled in runs in the first inning for the Pointers to tie the game at 2-2 but the Blugolds responded with five runs in the second and three in the third to take a 10-2 lead.
UW-Stevens Point got the game's next three runs, including RBI doubles by Allen and Olson in the third, but UW-Eau Claire scored the last four runs. Zana Lorbetske earned the win with a complete game for the Blugolds.
UW-Eau Claire 13, UW-Stevens Point 2 | Box Amanda Fischer and Kenzie Winning each drove in four runs for UW-Eau Claire in game two and Lauren Blasczyk allowed one unearned run in five innings of work. The Blugolds used a five-run third to take a 6-1 lead in support of Blasczyk.
UWEC had four hits in the third, including a two-out, three-run home run by Winning to center to score the final three runs of the frame. Fischer hit a line-drive grand slam to left center in the seventh for the Blugolds to close out the scoring.
Sam Raddant (Shawano, WI/Shawano) recorded her fifth multi-hit game of the season, going 2-for-3 with a run scored for UW-Stevens Point. UWSP's second run came on a bases loaded walk by
Maddie Sawdey (Medford, WI/Medford) in the sixth.
UW-Stevens Point plays a rescheduled doubleheader at Luther on Monday, April 6. The Pointers and Norse start game one at 3 p.m. in Decorah, Iowa.
