UW-Stout (12-18, 4-6 WIAC) scored five times in the first inning and reigning WIAC Pitcher of the Year Tori Workman held UW-Stevens Point (11-20, 1-7 WIAC) to two runs on three hits in 6.1 innings in the opener.

After the Blue Devils loaded the bases with one out in the first, Rachel Thomas singled in a run and Beth Wood doubled in two more to give the hosts a 3-0 lead. Before the inning was over, UW-Stout added two more runs on a sacrifice bunt and a RBI single by Nicole Rogers.

Workman faced the minimum of nine hitters through three innings before UW-Stevens Point got on the board in the fourth. Paige Allen (South Elgin, IL/South Elgin) drove in Maddie Sawdey (Medford, WI/Medford) with a two-out single for one of the freshman's two hits in the game.

The third UW-Stevens Point hit of the game was a solo home run by Jordon Schreiner (Kaukauna, WI/Kaukauna) to right field in the sixth. The home run was her fifth of the season, tying Allen for the most on the team.

The Blue Devils had just five hits in the game, three of which came in the first inning. Miranda Morrison (Madison, WI/East) held UW-Stout to one run on two hits in five innings of relief and struck out six.

UW-Stout 2, UW-Stevens Point 1 | Box

UW-Stevens Point took an early 1-0 lead in the top of the first but Abbey Ball and Workman limited the Pointers to two hits in the final 6.1 innings. UW-Stout scored single runs in the second and fourth to come out on top in a pitcher's duel.

In the first, three consecutive UWSP batters walked as the Pointers pushed across their only run of the game on a bases-loaded walk to Jodi Vanderford (Kenosha, WI/Mary D. Bradford). After the walk, the Blue Devils sent Ball to the mound and she went on to allow just one hit in 5.1 shutout innings to improve to 2-0.

UW-Stout tied the game at 1-1 on a RBI single by Heather Bol in the second and later scored the game-winning run on a Liz Seipel bunt single in the fourth. Workman replaced Ball for the seventh inning and struck out two natters for her 18th save of the season.

Morrison took the loss to fall to 6-8 this season despite allowing just two runs in six innings. The sophomore allowed seven hits and one walk with two strikeouts.

UW-Stevens Point concludes a stretch of four consecutive away doubleheaders with a twinbill at UW-River Falls on Monday, April 20 at 3 and 5 p.m.
