STEVENS POINT, Wis. –
Kyle Sharkey (Moore, OK/Insight School of Kansas) gave the UW-Stevens Point men's hockey team an early 1-0 lead but UW-River Falls scored the final three goals of the game top the Pointers 3-1 in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Championship game on Saturday night at K.B. Willett Arena.

Photo GalleryUW-River Falls (20-7-1) broke a 1-1 tie with a shorthanded goal by Mike Fazio at 8:40 of the third period that turned out to be the game-winner. UW-Stevens Point (21-6-1) and UWRF were meeting for the fourth time this season and have now split the four meetings.
The Falcons claimed the Commissioner's Cup for the first time in the tournament's second season. Both teams will await news on a potential NCAA Tournament berth on Monday, March 9 at 10:30 a.m. EST.
Sharkey scored for the 16th time this season at 10:41 of the first period to give the Pointers a 1-0 lead. The 16 goals tie the sophomore for the most on the team.
Mark Bittner (Crookston, MN/Crookston) and
Brandon Jaeger (Champlin, MN/Champlin Park) earned assists on Sharkey's goal. The assist was the second of Jaeger's career.
The Falcons tied the score at 1-1 on an unassisted goal by Zach Schrotenboer at 14:10 of the first period. The score remained tied until Fazio's third-period goal and UWRF added a third via Mike Dietrich's power-play goal with under five minutes to go.
UW-River Falls outshot UW-Stevens Point 30-24 in the game and Tanner Milliron made 23 saves in the win. Jaeger stopped 27 shots but took the loss.
