STEVENS POINT, Wis. – Seven players scored as the fifth-ranked UW-Stevens Point men's hockey team secured the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) regular season championship outright with a 7-0 victory over UW-Superior on Senior Night on Saturday night at K.B Willett Arena.

Photo Gallery The regular season championship is the 10th in program history for UW-Stevens Point (20-5-0, 10-2-0 WIAC) and the team's first since 1999-2000. The Pointers will have home-ice advantage throughout the 2015 WIAC Men's Ice Hockey Championship.
The victory is UWSP's 20th of the season, giving the Pointers back-to-back 20-win seasons for the first time since 1991-92 and 1992-93. The 20-win regular season is UW-Stevens Point's first since the 1992-93 national championship season.
UW-Superior (8-17-0, 1-11-0 WIAC) kept UW-Stevens Point off the scoreboard for the first 12 minutes of the game but the Pointers then scored four goals in 4:09 to break the game wide open.
Lawrence Cornellier (Machesney Park, IL/Harlem) scored the opening goal at 12:29 of the first period, finishing off a two-on-one shorthanded rush by pushing home a rebound off a shot by
Scott Henegar (Trenton, MI/Trenton). Goals by
Drew Graves (Allen Park, MI/Allen Park ) and
Joe Kalisz (Davison, MI/Davison) 55 seconds apart stretch the lead to 3-0, before
Garrett Ladd (Fenton, MI/Fenton) scored on the power play to make it 4-0 after one.
Kyle Sharkey (Moore, OK/Insight School of Kansas) and Gibson added second-period goals to push the UWSP lead to 6-0 after two.
Alex Kromm (Penticton, BC) wrapped up the scoring at 4:50 of the third period.
Gibson and Henegar each tallied a career-high four points in the victory, as Gibson had a goal and three assists and Henegar registered four helpers. Henegar or Gibson had a hand in each of UWSP's seven goals.
UW-Stevens Point held a slender 30-26 edge in shots on goal but scored on four of its eight shots in the first period.
Brandon Jaeger (Champlin, MN/Champlin Park) made 26 stops in his fifth shutout of the season and earned his 20th win of the season to give him back-to-back 20-win seasons.
Cory Simons made 19 saves for the Yellowjackets in relief of Bryce Fink, who stopped four of seven shots he faced in the first 15:07.
UW-Stevens Point will face the winner of the first-round matchup between UW-Superior and UW-Stout in the WIAC Tournament semifinals. The Pointers will take on the winner of that game on Friday, Feb. 27 at K.B. Willett Arena. UW-River Falls will play at UW-Eau Claire in the other semifinal series.
