ST. CLOUD, Minn. – The UW-Stevens Point men's and women's swimming & diving teams opened their seasons in a tri-dual against St. Cloud State and UW-Eau Claire, with the men going 1-1 and the women going 0-2 on Saturday.
The men defeated UW-Eau Claire 221-67 and fell to St. Cloud State 128.5-111.5, while the women were defeated 213-83 by St. Cloud State and 118-110 by UW-Eau Claire.
Results On the men's side, UW-Stevens Point picked up three individual event wins and five second-place finishes in the meet.
Caleb Miller (La Crosse, WI) won the 1,000-yard freestyle with a time of 10:21.47 and placed second in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:17.70).
Nate Somers (Oshkosh, WI) took home the 500-yard freestyle title, finishing in 5:00.87 and also picked up third-place finishes in the 200-yard freestyle (1:47.94) and 100-yard freestyle (49.20).
Sam Jekel (Madison, WI) was victorious in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 51.93.
Kyle McNair (Lake Zurich, IL) came in second in the 100-yard backstroke (54.51).
Jekel, Somers, McNair and Miller placed second in the 400 free relay, touching the wall in 3:14.36.
Garrett Richetto (Wausau, WI),
Caleb Meixner (Sun Prairie, WI) and
Joe Hollman (Geneva, IL) each recorded second-place finishes, Richetto in the 200-yard freestyle (1:47.74), Meixner in the 200-yard backstroke (2:01.81) and Hollman in the 200-yard individual medley (2:04.67).
Andrew King (Palatine, IL) swam to a third-place finish in the 50-yard freestyle (21.76).
On the women's side,
Amanda Walker (Sun Prairie, WI) was the first to touch the wall in the 1,000 free, doing so in 10:59.30.
Walker also was a member of the winning 400 free relay team along with
Erica Perkins (Rochester, MN),
Gemma Pillsbury (Baraboo, WI) and
Kassie Yeazel (Whitewater, WI) (3:45.71).
UW-Stevens Point swims in another tri-dual against Northern Michigan and Minnesota State-Mankato at home on Saturday, Nov. 14 at 1 p.m.
