STEVENS POINT, Wis. – Brandon Jaeger (Champlin, MN/Champlin Park) recorded his eighth career shutout and Kyle Sharkey (Moore, OK/Insight School of Kansas) had a goal and an assist as the fifth-ranked UW-Stevens Point men's hockey blanked 12th-ranked UW-Eau Claire 3-0 in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) opener for both teams on Friday evening at K.B. Willett Arena.

The shutout was also the second of the season for Jaeger, who turned aside all 22 shots he faced for UW-Stevens Point (7-2-0, 1-0-0 WIAC). The win was the fifth in the last six meetings with UW-Eau Claire (4-3-2, 0-1-0 WIAC) for the Pointers in the last two seasons.
 
After a scoreless first period, Andrew Kolb (Toledo, OH/Toledo Catholic) opened the scoring 1:38 into the second with his fourth goal of the season, which turned out to be the game-winning goal. Scott Henegar (Trenton, MI/Trenton) and Zach Badalamenti (Harrison Township, MI) picked up assists. Badalamenti's helper was his first career collegiate point.
 
Just 1:25 later, the Pointers doubled their lead as Alex Brooks (Grand Rapids, MI) rifled home from the slot for his second goal of the year. Sharkey and Garrett Ladd (Fenton, MI/Fenton), who rang the post in the opening period, recorded assists on Brooks' goal.
 
Sharkey added his team-best sixth goal and 10th point at 11:14 of the final period after a Lawrence Cornellier (Machesney Park, IL/Harlem) shot was saved into his path. Kyle Brodie (Denver, CO/Northglenn) also earned an assist on Sharkey's goal.
 
UW-Stevens Point outshot UW-Eau Claire 37-22 in the game, including 16-5 in the first period. Tyler Green made 34 saves in the loss.
 
UWSP hosts UW-Stout in a WIAC matchup on Saturday, Dec. 6 at K.B. Willett Arena at 7 p.m. The game will feature the team's Joe Pavelski jersey auction.
