STEVENS POINT, Wis. – Sam Mentkowski scored on two long touchdown receptions from Brett Kasper early in the third quarter as UW-Oshkosh defeated the No. 19-ranked UW-Stevens Point football team 21-7 on Saturday afternoon on Military Appreciation Day at Community Stadium at Goerke Park.
Box ScoreKasper hit Mentkowski for a 42-yard touchdown a minute and a half into the second half and then on a 37-yard pass at the 10:48 mark for UW-Oshkosh (4-4, 4-1 WIAC). Mentkowski caught six passes for 105 yards and the two touchdowns in the game and Kasper was 9-for-14 for 175 yards and three scores.

Cody Nuernberg (Kewaskum, WI/Kewaskum) hit
Jared Pankow (Mosinee, WI/D.C. Everest) for a 22-yard touchdown with 7:06 remaining in the second quarter. The pass capped an 11-play, 66-yard drive that took 5:28.
UW-Oshkosh responded quickly, as Joe Sommers turned a screen pass into a 62-yard touchdown. The scoring play accounted for 62 of UWO's 84 yards in the first half.
Nuernberg finished the game 17-for-39 for 168 yards with a touchdown and two interceptions. Pankow was UWSP's leading receiver with five catches for 56 yards.
Matt Sosinsky (Princeton, WI/Princeton) hauled in four passes for 55 yards, while
Alex Wallace (Brodhead, WI/Brodhead) had four receptions for 37 yards.
DeJuan Wright (St. Petersburg, FL/Keswick Christian) ran for 89 yards on 21 carries to finish as the game's leading rusher. The UW-Stevens Point defense held UW-Oshkosh to 37 yards on 31 rushes in the game, as the Pointers outgained the Titans 318-221 and controlled the ball for 35:13.
UWSP converted 8-of-19 third downs, while UWO was just 1-for-13 on third down.
John Kontowicz (Menomonee Falls, WI/Menomonee Falls) led the Pointers' defense with eight total tackles, including half a sack and 1.5 tackles for a loss.
UW-Stevens Point takes to the road for a matchup with top-ranked UW-Whitewater on Saturday, Nov. 8 at 1 p.m.
