STEVENS POINT, Wis. - The UW-Stevens Point men's swimming and diving team was second and the women were fifth at the Border Battle meet this weekend.
Results
The men and women combined for a third-place finish with 1,466 points. UW-Milwaukee (2080.5) and the University of South Dakota (1659.5) finished ahead of the Pointers.
On the men's side, Hans Peters won the 100 freestyle (47.56), 200 freestyle (1:44.80) and the 200 IM (1:59.16). Sam Jekel (Madison, WI) won the 50 free in 21.71, while James Loftus (Janesville, WI) was second in the 100 breaststroke (1:00.95). Ethan Bott (Whitefish Bay, WI) finished second in the 100 back (55.0) and third in the 200 back (2:00.29).
Peters was also part of four top-two relays. Bott, Loftus, Jekel and Peters won the 400 medley relay (3:32.22) and Andrew King (Palatine, IL), Jekel, Peters and Chris Higgins (Cedarburg, WI) won the 200 free relay in 1:26.16. Joe Hollman (Geneva, IL), Luuk Dekkers (Ames,IA), Peters and Kyle McNair (Lake Zurich, IL) finished second in the 800 free relay (7:07.77), while King, Peters, Dekkers and Jekel were second in the 400 free relay (3:10.05). Bott, Loftus, Jekel and King won the 200 medley relay in 1:37.42.
For the women, Amanda Walker (Sun Prairie, WI) finished second in the 200 butterfly (2;14.83), third in the 200 freestyle (1:57.35) and fifth in the 500 freestyle (5:13.79). Amy Boritzke (Brookfield, WI) posted top-ten finishes in the 50 freestyle and 100 and 200 backstrokes.
Boritzke, Cassie Matthys (Escanaba, MI), Alexa Pronga (Wisconsin Rapids, WI) and Walker swam to a third-place finish in the 200 free relay (1:39.55), while the 200 medley relay of Boritzke, Matthys, Pronga and Jemma Pillsburg took third in 1:51.82. Boritzke, Walker, Pillsbury and Pronga tied for third in the 400 free relay (3:10.05).
The Pointers swim at the La Crosse relays next Saturday.
