STEVENS POINT, Wis. – The UW-Stevens Point men's and women's swimming and diving teams opened the season on Saturday taking part in a split tri dual. The Pointers posed victories over UW-Eau Claire while both the men's and women's teams came up short against Division II St. Cloud.

Highlights on the women's side included newcomer
Amanda Walker (Sun Prairie, WI/), who posted wins in the 1000 free (10:52.55) and the 500 free (5:19.83).
Amy Boritzke (Brookfield, WI/) posted an individual win in the 100 free (55.50) and then swam the first leg of the winning 400 free relay team with Walker in a time of 3:38.46.
On the men's side, freshman Samuel Jekel posted an even victory in the 100 butterfly (52.72) and a win over UW-Eau Claire in the 50 free (21.79). Jekel was also a member of the top-finishing 400 free relay (3:12.00).
The Pointers return to action Nov. 15-16 hosting the annual Border Battle. Action begins Friday at 6 p.m.
