DUBUQE, Iowa - The UW-Stevens Point football team won its first game of the season in convincing fashion with a 55-14 victory over the University of Dubuque Saturday.

Mitch Beau (Fond du Lac, WI/St. Mary Springs) recorded six touchdowns, four through the air and two on the ground. He threw for 272 yards and ran for 51.
Beau connected with wide receiver
Theo Maglio (Wautoma, WI/Wautoma) six times for 85 yards and three touchdowns. The duo combined for the game's first score on a 33-yard strike midway through the first quarter.
Dubuque tied the game just over two minutes later, but Beau found tight end
Evan Butts (Oshkosh, WI/North) for a 72-yard touchdown.
Ethan Lockhart (Elkhorn, WI/Elkhorn) led the Pointers in rushing with 107 yards on 15 carries to go along with a touchdown.
A balanced offensive approach led to 540 total yards for the Pointers, 268 of which came on the ground and 272 through the air.
The Pointers defense held Spartan running back Kyle Acker to just 62 rushing yards – the first time Acker failed to reach the century mark this season.
Not to be outdone by the offense, the UWSP defense scored a touchdown of its own when
Dan Wall (Milwaukee, WI/West Allis Hale) returned an interception 56 yards late in the game.
The Pointers' 55 points is the most since Nov. 6, 2010, when UWSP beat UW-River Falls, 58-13.
Maglio's three-touchdown catch performance is tied for second all-time in program history.
Cody Seibel (Kewaskum, WI/Kewaskum) led the Pointers defense for the second straight week, posting 12 total tackles on the evening.
The Pointers next play when they travel to UW-Whitewater Sept. 26. Whitewater lost to Buffalo State College Saturday, Sept. 15, snapping the Warhawks' 46-game winning streak. The win streak was the longest active streak in all of college football. The last team before Buffalo State to beat UWW in the regular season was UWSP in 2008.
