Pointer men finish ninth, women 44th at 2012 NCAA Championships

INDIANAPOLIS – The UW-Stevens Point men's swimming and diving team collected 137 points at the 2012 NCAA Division III Swimming and Diving Championships, finishing ninth at the four-day meet. The UWSP women's team collected eight points to finish in 44th place.

The 2012 championships were held at the Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis Natatorium March 21-24 and hosted by Franklin College (Ind.).

Denison University (Ohio) secured its second consecutive national championship with 600 points to surpass the second-place total of 519 by Kenyon College (Ohio).

Joey Clapp (Faribault, MN/) was a First Team All-American in the 50-yard freestyle and was a member of all four All-American relay squads including a third place finish in the 200-yard freestyle relay.

Ryan Farmer (Naperville, IL/) was a First Team All-American in the 100-yard butterfly, finishing fourth and Sam Davy (Stevens Point, WI/) was an Honorable Mention All-American in the event, posting a 12th place finish.

Davy and Farmer were also members of the 200 and 400-yard freestyle relay teams that garnered First Team All-American accolades with third and eighth place finishes, respectively. Eric Emerson (River Falls, WI/) was also member of the freestyle relay squads.

Ian Girdley (Verona, WI/) and Alex Loftus (Janesville, WI/) each claimed First Team All-American honors, along with Farmer and Clapp in the 200 and 400-yard medley relay teams that finished fifth and eighth, respectively.

The ninth place finish for the Pointer men is the highest since 2009, when the team posted an eighth place showing. The Pointers have posted nine top 10 finishes in the 16 year history of UWSP swimming at the NCAA Division III level.

On the women's side, the 200-yard freestyle relay team of Ashley Majewski (Elm Grove, WI/Catholic Memorial), Amy Boritzke (Brookfield, WI/), Kelly Kading (De Pere, WI/) and Andrea Wagner (Apple Valley, MN/) posted a 13th place finish, earning Honorable Mention All-American honors.

The Emory women captured their third straight national championship after compiling 639 points.  Williams College (Mass.) finished second with 453.
