University of Wisconsin - Stevens Point Athletics

Downie took the individual title at the UW-Oshkosh Titan Invitational on opening weekend, winning the event by two strokes. After ending the first round in a tie for first, Downie knocked three strokes off her opening round score to win the event. She shot an 84 in round one and an 81 in the second round.

Other Nominees

Miranda Nieman, Women's Soccer
Nieman set a career high with 12 saves at St. Olaf on Sunday to keep the Pointers within a goal. She also made five saves in the season opener against St. Catherine and leads the WIAC with 17 saves through opening weekend.

Faith Leithold, Women's Tennis
Leithold went 3-0 in singles play to help the Pointers to a 3-0 start to the season. Playing at No. 1 against Ripon, she won 6-2, 6-1. Leithold played two other matches at No. 3 singles winning 6-0, 6-1 at Wisconsin Lutheran and 6-2, 6-2 at Loras.
 

Katie Larson, Volleyball 
Larson hit .284 and racked up 30 kills as the Pointers began the season 2-1 after facing two ranked foes the Kathryn Pals Legacy Invitational over the weekend. Larson posted 12 kills and added four blocks as UWSP defeated #20 Bethel in five sets to begin the season. She was again in double figures with 11 kills over three sets at host #15 Northwestern on Saturday. She hit .409 and added six digs against the Eagles. Larson was named to the six-player all-tournament team for her play.
