After a two week quarantine, Nelson went 2-0 to win the 116 bracket. She needed just 36 seconds to win by fall over Iowa Wesleyan's Ashden Welty in the semifinals. In the finals, she took a 14-2 tech fall victory over Sarah Martinez of North Central. On Saturday, she competed in the indoor track meet against UW-Platteville posting UWSP's best mark of the year in the pole vault, winning with a height of 3.40 meters (11' 1.75").
Other Nominees
Taylor Greenheck, Women's Basketball
Greenheck led the Pointers in scoring in both games against UW-Oshkosh last week. She scored 11 on Wednesday and nine on Friday. For the week, she grabbed five rebound and had three assists.
Sara Traxel, Softball
Traxel powered the Pointers to a 2-0 start with a doubleheader sweep of Marian on Friday. She put down a vital sac bunt in UWSP’s two-run fourth inning in game one’s victory. In game two, she came a triple shy of the cycle going 3-for-6 with a home run, double and two runs scored. Traxel drove in three in the game two win and also stole a base.
Makenna Tkach, Softball
Tkach earned a win and a save in UWSP’s sweep of Marian in the season-opener while posting a 0.00 ERA. In game one, she struck out six while scattering four hits in 5.2 innings pitched. In game two, she tossed the final 2.0 frames, striking out three and giving up just one hit for the save. Opposing hitters batted just .179 against Tkach in the twin bill.
