Nieman continued her unbeaten streak as UWSP’s goalkeeper with wins over No. 22 Wartburg and Dubuque and a draw at Carroll last week. She shut out Carroll in a 0-0 draw with four saves on Wednesday. In Saturday’s win over No. 22 Wartburg, she also made four saves. Then on Sunday, she stopped a season-high eight shots for her fourth shutout of the year, the most in the WIAC.
Other Nominees
Kati Frierdich, Soccer
Frierdich scored twice on Saturday as the Pointers rallied for a 2-1 win over No. 22 Wartburg. Her first goal came in the 65th minute to pull UWSP level at 1-1. Then with 13 seconds remaining in regulation, she put home the game-winner. Frierdich has four goals on the season to lead the team.
Maddie Lawson, Volleyball
Lawson hit. 387 for the week, including a pair of matches with a .500 or better hitting percentage. In Friday’s win over North Park, she hit .692 with nine kills in 13 attempts. On Saturday, she hit .500 with eight kills in a win over Millikin. She had 30 kills over the four matches and added 12 blocks, three digs and two aces as UWSP won 11 of the 14 sets played.
Barbara Covek,Tennis
Covek earned a No. 3 singles win with scores of 6-3, 6-4 over UW-River Falls on Saturday. Against Lawrence on Sunday, Covek won the No. 1 singles spot with scores of 6-4, 6-7 (8).
Jenna Koepp & Nancy Cozzi, Tennis
Koepp and Cozzi recorded a conference win in the No. 1 doubles spot at UW-River Falls on Saturday with a win of 8-6.
