Simmons hit safely in all five games for the Pointers in the opening week of the season. He hit .391 for the week with 10 RBI, seven runs scored and five extra-base hits, one in each game of the season. He went 2-for-4 with a run, a stolen base and an RBI in the season-opener against Amherst. In UWSP’s sweep of Washington and Jefferson on Friday, he collected five hits, drove in seven, scored five times and had a triple in each game of the twin bill. Simmons drove in two and scored a run against Illinois Tech on Saturday with a double in the game. He also had a double on Sunday against Endicott.
