Herro accounted for all five touchdowns in UWSP’s win at River Fall on Saturday. He threw for 295 yards and four touchdowns while racking up 115 rushing yards and another touchdown on the ground. He had runs of 43 and 20 yards in the game and completed six passes for 29 yards or more including a 49-yard touchdown strike for a 7-0 lead.
Other Nominees:
Sam Shafer: Shafer tied for the team-lead with 12 tackles in the win over UWRF on Saturday. He forced a fumble and returned a blocked PAT 98 yards for the Pointers.
Connor Ryckman:Ryckman had two strong performances to help the No. 1-ranked Pointers remain unbeaten and improve to 5-0-1. On Friday, Ryckman recorded 22 saves in a 3-2 win over Saint Mary’s (Minn.). On Saturday, Ryckman held the No. 15 St. Thomas Tommies to one goal in a 2-1 victory. He stopped 22 of 23 shots allowing the lone goal in the first period. He recorded nine saves in the first period, eight in the second, and five in the third. For the season, Ryckman is 5-0-0, has a goals-against average of 1.81 and a save percentage of .918.
Michael Mills: Mills won the 500-yard freestyle in Saturday’s dual with Northern Michigan. He swam a time of 5:02.18 to clip the runner-up by just 0.82 seconds.
Maxwell Schauer: Schauer won the three-meter diving event on Saturday with a score of 156.20. He topped the next competitor by nearly 15 points.
Jess Posch: Posch was UWSP’s top diver in Saturday’s dual with Northern Michigan. She placed fourth in the three-meter event with a score of 183.60. In the one-meter event, she came in fifth with a score of 208.20.
Luke Smiley: Smiley won the 157 weight bracket at the Dan Gable Open on Saturday. He won by fall at 0:56, a 15-0 tech fall and an 8-3 decision in the finals over #3 JUCO wrestler Tristen Guaman. Smiley is now 6-1 on the year.
