Tauber was a beast on defense propelling the Pointers to a 2-0 league start.  He picked up his second double-double of the season with 11 points and 12 rebounds in a three-point win at UW-Stout.  In the conference opener at No. 3 UW-River Falls, he grabbed 13 boards in UWSP’s shutdown victory on the road.  Through the first two games of WIAC action, Tauber leads all players with 25 rebounds with a league-high 19 coming on the defensive glass.  He also recorded three blocks on the week, one shy of the league leader.  For the week, he averaged 7.0 points, 12.5 rebounds with four assists and three blocked shots.

Other Nominees:

Luke McElhenie: The sophomore forward tallied a career-high four points in the Pointers’ 7-1 victory over St. Olaf on Saturday night. McElhenie assisted on the contest’s opening goal 3:16 into the opening period, before grabbing his first goal of the evening four minutes later. McElhenie picked up his second assist of the night on a power-play goal in the first period that extended the Pointers lead to 4-0 late in the first period. He netted his second goal of the evening midway through the third period, giving UWSP a 6-0 advantage. McElhenie picked up his second multi-goal performance of the season, after netting a pair against Adrian on Dec. 13.

Cara Lemirande: Lemirande scored two goals and totaled three points over the weekend for UWSP.  In Friday’s comeback win over College of Saint Benedict, she tallied an unassisted goal early in the second period to knot the game at 1-1.  Late in the third period, she assisted on a go-ahead goal for the first lead in the game.  On Saturday, she scored on the power play in the opening minute of the third period to pull UWSP within two goals.  Lemirande is now tied for the team lead in goals (5), assists (6) and points (11).

Matt Berlin: Berlin pinned both of his opponents as the Pointers defeated Cornell and Luther in duals on Saturday.  He needed just 6:20 to completed both of his falls, winning in the second period against Cornell and recording a first-period fall against Luther.  He improved to 12-5 on the year with just one defeat at 133.
