Somers won both the 500 and 1,000 freestyle events and anchored the winning 400-yard freestyle relay to propel UW-Stevens Point to a 152-91 victory over UW-La Crosse in a Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) dual meet on Saturday. The freshman won the 1,000 free in 10:02.70, nearly 10 seconds ahead of the field, and claimed the 500 free in 4:55.88. He also swam the anchor leg of the 400-yard freestyle relay that won in 3:11.89.
