Hermsen posted a runner-up finish at 165 pounds at the season-opening Pointer Open on Saturday in Quandt Fieldhouse, falling only to UW-Madison’s Izaec Quintanilla 9-7 in sudden victory 1 in the championship match. On his way to the title match, the junior posted back-to-back pins over Mike Wagner of Saint John’s and Keone Derain of Elmhurst. He then defeated reigning Division II All-American Nick Fishback of UW-Parkside in the semifinals 8-7 to move on to the title match.
