RIVER FALLS, Wis.—The UW-Stevens Point women's hockey team (13-10-3) fell 9-0 to UW-River Falls (18-5-3) in the opening game of the WIAC Tournament on Friday evening at Hunt Arena.
Senior forward
Lexi Englund (White Bear Lake, MN/White Bear Lake) led the Pointers, recording three of UWSP's 11 shots on goal. Goaltenders
Sydney Conley (South St. Paul, MN/South St. Paul) and
Marit Larson (Oakdale, MN/North St. Paul) combined for 34 saves in net for UWSP.
UW-River Falls tallied jumped out a 1-0 lead in the first period before adding three goals in the second period and closing out the game with five goals in the final period.
The Pointers take on the Falcons tomorrow at 2:00 p.m. at Hunt Arena. UWSP will need to pick up a win and earn a victory in a mini-game to advance to the O'Brien Cup Championship game on March 3.
