RIVER FALLS, Wis. – The UW-Stevens Point women's hockey team (13-11-3) saw its season come to an end with a 6-1 loss at No. 7 UW-River Falls (19-5-3) in the WIAC O'Brien Cup semifinals (presented by Culver's) on Saturday.
The Falcons opened the scoring at the 12:54 mark of the first period for a 1-0 lead by the home team.
Freshman
Shannon Motzko (Woodbury, MN/Woodbury) answered with her third of the season to knot the game at 1-1.
Cara Lemirande (Janesville, WI/Madison Capitols) picked up her team-best 13th assist of the year on the goal.
The Falcons regained the lead at the 18:05 mark to take a 2-1 lead into the first intermission. UWRF scored twice in the second and two more in the third to seal the series win.
Junior
Sydney Conley (South St. Paul, MN/South St. Paul) made 31 saves for the Pointers.
Ali Biagini (Stillwater, MN/Stillwater) and
Lauren Smith (Antigo, WI/Antigo) had three shots apiece to lead UWSP.
Biagini led the Pointers with 10 goals in her senior season. Fellow senior
Ellie Punnett (Hailey, ID/Athol Murray College of Notre Dame) concluded her senior campaign with nine goals and nine assists.
