11/2/2017 2:37:00 PM

MADISON, Wis. – The UW-Stevens Point volleyball team landed three athletes on the All-Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) teams announced Thursday (Nov. 2).  Sophomore April Gehl (Hilbert, Wis./Hilbert) and senior Kelly Magliano (Chicago, Ill./Mount Assisi Academy) were named first team selections with fellow senior Kendra Kundinger (Auburndale, Wis./Auburndale) earning honorable mention and All-Defensive team laurels.  Sophomore Ali Zamzow (Merrill, Wis./Merrill) earned All-Sportsmanship team honors.

Gehl garners her first career league honor after leading UWSP in kills this season.  She racked up 495 on the year and ended the season with double-doubles in 14 of the final 18 matches.  Gehl was named WIAC Offensive Player of the Week on Oct. 3 and was named to the all-tournament team at three different events this season (Kathryn Pals Legacy Invitational, Sandy Schumacher Memorial and UW-Oshkosh Tournament).  An all-around player, Gehl racked up 279 digs, 71 blocks, 22 assists and 17 services aces on the year.

Magliano also picks up her first league accolade after stepping up big time this season.  She led UWSP with 106 blocks on the season, the third-most among league players.  Magliano was named the WIAC Offensive Player of the Week on Sept. 19 and earned all-tournament team selection at the UW-River Falls Invite.  She racked up 282 kills in her senior year and hit .287, which led the Pointers.  She added 28 digs and 29 of her blocks were of the solo variety.

Kundinger pockets a pair of awards after taking over as the team's libero this season.  She piled up a league-high 690 digs, two shy of the current NCAA leaders.  Kundinger was named the WIAC Defensive Player of the Week three times during the season, including back-to-back weeks to begin October.  She also earned all-tournament team honors at the Kathryn Pals Legacy Invitational and the UW-Stevens Point Invitational.  She added 73 assists and 27 service aces on the year.

Zamzow played in 10 sets over six matches this season.  She picked up five digs in limited action and has been a positive influence at practice and during games.

The Pointers finished the year at 24-10 with three wins over ranked opponents.  UWSP was the fourth seed in the WIAC Tournament and suffered a three-set defeat in the first round on Tuesday.
