Volleyball splits pair of Friday matches

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 SAINT JOSEPH, Minn.- The No. 25 UW-Stevens Point women's volleyball team split their first two matches of the season on Friday at Claire Lynch Hall. The Pointers started the day by defeating Bethel before losing to No. 19 Saint Benedict.

In the win over Bethel, freshman Krista Loos (Sterling, IL/Sterling) led UWSP with a match-high16 kills in her collegiate debut, while Allison Davis (Rochelle, IL/Rochelle Township) and Emma Brunkhorst (Germantown, WI/Germantown) each had 10. Alexis Hartman (Deer Park, IL/Lake Zurich) handed out 39 of the Pointers' 47 assists. The Pointers hit 0.340 as a team in the 3-0 win.
 
In the second match, No. 19 Saint Benedict proved too tough for UW-Stevens Point, as the Blazers recorded a 3-0 win. Davis tallied a team-high eight kills and Brunkhorst had seven kills and six blocks. Hartman assisted on 18 points for the Pointers. Lexi Rinde led the way for the Blazers with a match-high 13 kills, while Taya Kockelman notched 34 assists.
 
UW-Stevens Point will play two more matches on Saturday at the CSB Labor Day Tourmanent. The Pointers face Concordia-Moorhead at 9:00 am and Northwestern (Minn.) at 11:00 am. UWSP topped Concordia-Moorhead in five early last season. Northwestern edged the Pointers in five in the first round of the NCAA tournament last fall.
