BELOIT – It took five sets but the UW-Stevens Point volleyball team picked up its 19th win of the 2010-11 season Saturday afternoon, defeating the Buccaneers of Beloit College 3-2.
The Pointers opened the match in dominant fashion, hitting .462 in the first game and .133 in the second to win both games by identical 25-20 scores.
The host Buccaneers bounced back with a 25-16 victory to stay alive against the Pointers and carried that momentum into the fourth game, winning 25-20.
In the deciding fifth game, it was all Pointers as UWSP cruised to the 15-12 victory thanks to a .200 hitting percentage.
Christina Brinkman (Bristol, WI/Westosha Central) led a group of three Pointers with double digit kills, posting 18. Morgan Bartkowiak (Slinger, WI/Slinger) added 12 kills and Kaitlin Wolf (Roscoe, IL/Newman Catholic) added 10. Chantel York (Lake Geneva/Badger) tallied 23 assists and Molly Elderbrook (Burlington/Burlington) added 27 digs in the win.
The Pointers return to Stevens Point to host UW-Platteville in their final home and conference game of the 2010 season. Game time is scheduled for 7 p.m.
